Well, it’s now 06:00 on the 30th December and for a number of reasons, I’m still awake and online and just over an hour and a half ago first read the ‘Breaking News’ story on the BBC site rumouring that Saddam Hussein, former President of Iraq, has been hanged following his well-publicised trial.

And, for whatever reason, I find it weird

Manual Labour & The Weakest Link

Not the most entertaining of posts really. Today was a little bit different in that I was actually doing some form of manual labour in the form of helping a mate do some roofing. It was done on top of a killer hangover and near-to-zero sleep, which probably wasn’t the best idea in the world, but what can you do?

Anyway, besides all that I have to say I found it quite enjoyable. Of course, I was pretty poor at the actual work side of stuff, but it was pleasant enough to be out and actually doing stuff in the fresh air and trying something different.

It also made me realize that I’m a fucking numpty who lacks an ounce of common sense.

I won’t name examples, just trust me on this one.

And that was that. I’m now really tired but for some reason I can’t sleep, so I’m writing this…

In other news I was watching a bit of The Weakest Link earlier and it suddenly struck me that the only reason that show exists is for people to get off on the idea of being insulted (or watching people being insulted) by Anne Robinson. Any pretence of intelligence is well and truly over, mainly because, on average, over half of the contestants are thick as pig shit anyway, apparently only allowed on the show in order to be an easy target for Miss Robinson’s endless jibes which, whilst they’re quite amusing and rather witty, just serve to demonstrate the general stupidity of the contestants, particularly when they fire back some dumbass retort (occasionally they strike a good one, that’s the luck of the draw).

On a slight aside, if you have ever been on The Weakest Link and happen to be reading this as well, then you probably do lie in the dumb 50% mentioned. Sorry.

Decision Time

The last week on the boat has been a mad house. Half of the crew are so sexually frustrated and petty that without Faisal or a figure of ‘authority’ on the boat they have, between them, gone all out on being generally screwed up.
I should have known it was going to be a crazy week when the captain turned up with his f-ugly Egyptian prostitue who, for appearances sake he insisted to most people was his ‘wife’. Maybe she is, but guaranteed next week they’ll be divorced before he moves in for another ‘weekly wife’.
So, the guy who spent so long lecturing others on screwing around on board sets out to spend the week doing the exact same thing, without any sense of irony or double standards.

Tired and Frustrated

Well, just getting ready to go for the third dive of the day – way behind schedule.

Why are we behind schedule? Mainly because the boss and the captain chose to stay up drinking till the wee hours of the morning, leaving the captain basically too innebriated to be arsed waking up and running the show on time, as he should of done, irrespective of that fact that he probably wasn’t in a fully fit condition to be in charge of the boat in the first place. But that’s by the by, we’re here now.

I am a lot less frustrated now than I was when I woke up / was woken up by a pissed boss at 3 in the morning which I thought, and still think, was just way out of line given the general amount of work we have on and hence the little amount of time we get to sleep, waking one or both of us up for no reason whatsoever other than to showboat and do the whole “I’m the boss” chest-beating thing. Maybe I’m being biased though…

Fucking Pissed Off

Well, just came back from a night out in Hurghada and have to admit I’m damn pissed off. On a number of levels. Number 1 is the fact that I was unable to text Katy back, being without credit nor the means to obtain the said credit.

Truly Frustrated, But Positively

Where to start!?Anyone who tried to subconsciously answer that with ‘at the beginning’ is a prick, by the way. :-)

I’m in Cario Airport, Terminal 2, at the moment enjoying the relatively new, and free, wireless internet access. This should be a de facto standard in airports everywhere. My new download of NetworkManager on my Kubuntu install runs like a dream, much faster than anything I’ve used by Microsoft, although not as nice looking (and arguably a touch slower) than the Apple wireless utility in OS X. Still, it fits the environment nicely.
When I get home I need to finish configuring my Airport Extreme card to work, I can’t be arsed now.

Music, Structure, ‘Open Source Dave’, and Other Uninteresting Reads

Morning / Afternoon / Evening.

This little introduction should serve more as a warning that there is nothing of much interest in this post. This entire post is primarily for my benefit by allowing me to record somewhere some ideas that came up in my head today.
Included are: Installing rockbox on my ipod; my desire to re-rip all my music to ogg; my current progress with ‘Operation Open Source Dave; how I organize my music collections; and not much else.

Read on if ye dare

Fucking Flies!

Bastards. The lot of ‘em. Pesky little good-for-nothings flying around landing aimlessly with one apparent soul purpose – aggravation!

This is all compunded by the fact that the bastards succeed in what they want to do. Picture the scene, I’m sat here minding my own business, listening to music, surfing the web and drinking water – so nothing to attract them to me you would think, but no. Possibly the only three flies in the area decide it is their mission today to piss me off and laugh amongst themselves at my failed attempt to swat them.

Various information sources tell us that they’re important to life in general, as many other things survive because they eat insects. But we’ve got a ton of insects, so lets get rid of the flies! At least the big ones.
Anyway, rant over, here’s a wikipedia picture:

The Last Week on Board

Has been hectic. Can be the only way to describe it.

The weather was nice to start with, finishing windier than we’ve ever had it with the boat before. The diving was superb, including a fantastic experience with a large Manta (picture to follow when I fix the rest of the site) and the Fox’s recovery of an Ivory tusk from ‘the wreck’ (read through recent posts and you know theres only one wreck worth talking about at the minute).

So pretty exciting stuff and some good pictures to flash around.

Dishonest Fuckwit

Well, the other night was a tad strange and I sorta surprised myself in a few things.
Got back from the last safari (Brothers & Elphinstone – tons of stuff to see) and went out for a few drinks that night with one of the guests (my student from the week) and another crew member. Had fun. Then got ‘approached’ by my student.
