The Crutch Series, Part I: Noise-makers Underwater

Well just finished the first dive of the day on the spectacular Big Brother and, like yesterday, was struck by the sheer number of shakers, air horns, tank bangers and a myriad of other ‘innovative’ noise making devices around the dive site.
This also occurred to me yesterday, but I never got as worked up over it as I did this time.

Zee Brotherrrrrs

Diving that kicks serious ass. A squared away team of 3 (plus Faisal and I). Doubles. Helium. A unified approach. And a week to visit the best of the North and the Brothers Islands.
Did we have fun? Goddamn right we did, mofo.

Return to Maidan

Any of you who happened to read the entry ‘Deep’ a while back may remember the name of the wreck in question: the /SS Maidan/. Like I think I said last time, she’s a bloody big wreck.

Today we went back to her again. This time we managed to spend a bit longer on the wreck (finding it straight away rather than looking for 5 minutes or so) and also went inside a little bit.

Deep

Today’s dive was, simply, great. It was the first dive I’ve done of this safari due to mainly being ‘compressor bitch’ for the rest of the time and trying to organize things a bit – much busier than it sounds, by the way.
It made all of that worthwhile.

The dive itself was onto a wreck called the /Maiden/ out at Rocky Island. It’s a difficult place to get to and is deep, so it’s not really an everyday occurence. She lies on the bottom at around 100 metres, with the bow section hanging over a drop-off, the deepest point of the bow section being at 120m.
I don’t know the full history of the wreck as of yet but I believe she was a cargo ship of some kind dating back to the 1920s. I intend to find out more of that information soon.
